The new King of Camelot has been crowned, long live the King!

Uther is still getting used to the weight of the crown, so might look slightly awkward at times, but he's in a very good mood.

Although that could be because of the wine that's flowing freely in the Main Hall.

The tables have quite a bit of food upon them, although compared to previous coronations this one is almost understated.

Feel free to poke the new king or talk amongst yourselves!

Uther gives a start as well, but not because of any premonition.

He pinches the bridge of his nose and swallows hard. "I wouldn't have abandoned you or...or anything like that."

He risks touching her arm and says in a low voice. "I want to apologise for what happened in the study. I lost my head and you, you deserve better than that."

"But you couldn't have married me. Besides, I've met your intended."

Vivienne's being blunt, but not untruthful. Nor is she being rude about Ygraine. Vivienne actually finds her rather sweet. So sweet, she wonders if court might devour her.

"Yes, if I hadn't met Ygraine..." Which is true enough, marrying Vivienne would be a pleasure.

But alas, Uther's heart belongs to Ygraine and since she hasn't rejected him nor have her brothers challenged him, he dares to dream.

He gives Vivienne a sheepish smile. "And what did you think of her?"

"But you already had, and it's not sensible thinking the past can change." Vivienne does try to be sensible, but this man's closest friend really isn't helping her in that regard.

"She's lovely. I'm afraid for her though. People are still scrambling for a place in court. Courtiers are infamous for climbing over each other to find heir place. It would be a shame if she was lost in the fray."

Uther frowns, he hadn't really considered the idea that courtiers would use Princess Ygraine's kindness against her. He had assumed her sweetness would win over everyone.

Vivienne's point is a good one however. "I plan on protecting her and of course she has her brothers. Have you met them yet?"

Uther's a man besotted. Vivienne's grown up in the middle of a court. Essentially, they're all the same.

"I haven't met any of them yet, though I'm keen to."

She moves nearer to Uther, though there really isn't anyone around to hear what she has to say. "It would be more effective then to declare your intentions now, to make her untouchable."

He is indeed. It's really rather romantic in a way...if sometimes embarrassing to himself and everyone caught in the crossfire.

"I can introduce you," he cranes his neck trying to spot them, things have got a bit more rowdy/

He blushes a bit. "Well...yes, but I haven't actually bought it up with the Princess yet."

Which is really something he needs to remedy.

"You should before someone else here finds her as charming as you do," Ygraine is sweet and beautiful. Many country lords would want to be in the running.

"It could be a trade of sorts: me for her."

Uther pales at the very idea - yes, he's King, but he's a lifetime of been told he's not good enough and not wanted.

He winces slightly at her comment. "It's not...I don't want you to think that."

He has to wonder how he ends up in these sorts of situations...

"I've yet to settle here, Uther. I can still wind up about anywhere, and likely will. Ygraine's likely to settle anywhere as well, unless you give her the option of here." It's the life of noble girls -- knowing their childhood home isn't likely where they'll stay. Lands far off -- unlikely to see their families again, in order to secure a treaty, or some other advantage.

Girls are an advantage as long as they can be traded for something else.

"Yes, well..." Uther knowledge of the life of noblewomen is lacking...he had no sisters after all and the woman he knows best is Nimueh, who's a free as they come.

"I...you should at least be happy."

Nimueh is far from the norm. Uther might need as much educating on court politics as she fears Ygraine might need.

"Happy rarely comes into it. If I am comfortable, I will consider myself lucky. But don't concern yourself with me -- you need to talk to your princess."

Well, yes and that's putting it mildly.

He nods.

"But I can introduce you to them all the same. I'm sure they'd be honoured to meet you."

Who wouldn't be honoured to meet a beauty like Vivienne?

"I would appreciate that. It also helps with the gossips, for such a formal thing."

The gossips that have focussed on her and Ygraine.
